Who is Bartolo Colon, anyways?

I’m Bartolo Colon, an ex-Big Leaguer.

I’ve played in the league for 20 years, including 10 years with the New York Mets.

This is how I looked like throughout the whole career:

“Mass = Gas”, they said.

Across 3 decades, I’ve maintained this amount of mass to stay on top of the game… that’s a lie, I’ve gained mass through the years.

But I didn’t become big to play baseball. I was always big. Naturally.

Ever since I was a little kid, I was heavy. I was always that kid in school who was at another level with size. Even in every team I’ve played in as a kid, I was always the biggest.

By the time I was in high school, I already reached 100 kg! Some kids were less than half the size of me. Not only was I big, I even looked old, that the other baseball teams’ coaches would go protest to the umpire that a grown adult is playing against teenagers.

As far as I can remember, every person told me that they thought I was one of the coaches. I’m sure that I resembled the looks of their dads, with the dad-bod, but bigger lol.

As I signed my first pro contract, the coaches told me to lift weights. It didn’t take me very long to become big and strong. Not just big and strong, but BIG and strong.

This meme went viral across the internet

That is my photo from the last year of my career. I am 140kg in that photo. Optimal mass for power.

My nickname was “Big Sexy”, but my life outside of baseball wasn’t so sexy.

I had type 2 diabetes at the age of 35, plagued with injuries and body problems in general. My performance was up there, but I was about to die. I had to retire.

After I retired, I did everything I can to get in shape for living. My main concern was health. I didn’t want to deal with so many problems with my body anymore.

I did a ton of research, exercised properly, and took care of my lifestyle.

And here’s the result:

Optimal not for performance, but for staying alive.

This is me now. Yes, this is real. Across 5 years, I was able to drop 40kg of weight with pure science(and a bit of belief). I am now healthy, with only little remnants of diabetes left to take care of.

The process wasn’t easy at all, but it was doable. Try telling me that this isn’t possible; because it is, and it happened.

Through this blog, I will share with you not only the process that I’ve went through, but the science behind obesity and diabetes.

I hope you get your knowledge and inspiration from me and this blog, to achieve the best health you can get to.

Love & Peace,

B.C.
